Đối với động từ tobe:

Lưu ý: Khi chia động từ was/were

• You, we, they, danh từ số nhiều + were
• I, he, she, it, danh từ số ít, không đếm được + was

• Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ: She visited her grandparents last weekend. (Cô ấy đã đến thăm ông bà của mình vào cuối tuần trước.)

• Diễn tả một thói quen trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ: When I was a child, I played badminton every day. (Khi còn là một đứa trẻ, tôi chơi cầu lông hàng ngày.)

• Diễn tả các hành động liên tiếp xảy ra trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ: He entered, looked around, and left the room. (Anh ấy bước vào, nhìn xung quanh và rời khỏi phòng.)
